After days of voting for their favorite celebrities, the viewers finally got to see their choices win at the 2019 American Music Awards on Sunday. Beginning with a glamorous red carpet, the musical night reached the melodious stage. Where each celebrity was seen shining, only some became the highlight of the year.
What made the November 24 ceremony historic, for all the right reasons, was Taylor Swift performing a career-traversing medley. Winning total six awards during the night, she became the biggest winner in AMAs’ history with a total of 29 awards. However, from her several victories, the dominant is ‘Artist of the Decade’ award, which Taylor Swift received after breaking the record of pop legend Michael Jackson.
The award was handed over to her by singer-songwriter GOAT Carole King, to which Swift couldn’t believe that “it’s you” giving “me this award”. She said, “When I fell in love with music, it was right around when I realized how marvelous it was an artist could transcend so many different phases and changes in people’s lives. You taught me that’s a possibility.”
Prior to being celebrated as the Artist of the Decade at the 2019 American Music Awards, Swift gave an extraordinary performance last night. Rising above all the controversies with Scooter Braun and Big Machine Label Group, the singer presented her different phases through her songs, which the Swifties have lived with her over the decade.
Opening her set with “The Man”, she was seen in a white shirt imprinted with the names of her several albums in a prison-style font. Following from “Love Story” to “Lover”, Swift allowed the audience to live the memories of each of her songs again. She also shared the stage with Camila Cabello and Halsey, as they performed “Shake It Off”.
“The fact that this is an award that celebrates a decade of hard work and art and fun and memories — all that matters to me is the memories I’ve had with you guys, the fans, over the years,” Swift said, as she received the AMA Artist of the Decade award. “Thank you for being the reason I’m on this stage…I’m so lucky to get to do this.”
Another highlight of the 2019 American Music Awards was the pop star and internet’s one the most favorite personality, Billie Eilish. In a monumental win, the 17-year-old singer took back home her first AMA awards – New artist of the year and Favourite artist – alternative rock. “I can’t believe I’m, like, standing in front of, oh, my god, I’m, like, shaking. Sorry,” she said. “To be in this category is insane to me. I grew up being in love with all of you, everybody in that row, everyone in that row, in this room.”
Billie Eilish also made her award debut performance at the AMAs and blew the minds of fans. She performed “All the Good Girls Go to Hell” from her latest When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, and literally set the stage on fire along with her older brother and producer, Finneas O’Connell.
Besides the ceremony, Eilish also swayed the 2019 American Music Awards red carpet in a bedazzled beekeeper mask, and she totally nailed it.
Some of the other red carpet looks included- Selena Gomez in a neon green low-cut strapless mini-dress, Lizzo in a ruffled orange mini-dress with a miniature purse, Taylor Swift in a layered look, Camila Cabello in sheer Oscar de la Renta dress, Halsey in a Magic Eye-esque gown, and others.
The award night marked the presence of several celebrities, but was significantly dominated by women. It definitely was big for several renowned musicians from the industry, especially because they are the ones people chose to celebrate!
