Joshua Jackson is in awe of his wife.

Ahead of the 2022 Met Gala, the actress shared with Yahoo Life that Jodi Turner-Smith, who attended fashion’s biggest night for the first time, “embraced the joy of the ‘messy evening’ and ‘takes everything out of this can” instead of feeling stressed or overwhelmed.

To keep her balance—and looking her best—the The Queen and Selim The star took some time off and indulged in a little extra self-care, starting with her physical wellness.

“I was in Pilates every day doing lymphatic drainage massages, my facials, just like taking care of myself,” she says, adding that she usually can’t spend that long pampering herself.

“It’s really cool because in our work this is what people can see, right, they can see us, like celebrating each other and celebrating design, art, fashion and ‘Oh, it’s just a big party and premieres,’ but the truth is it’s hard on your body. No. You get a lot of sleep, you have all these first world problems, but there’s a lot of tension and stress and you know, when you’re flying all over the place, like what’s that with your body, so we often don’t take care of ourselves…so this was in Actually a fun little excuse to be like, “Oh, I need to take care of my body right now.”

She also wants to make sure she’s in perfect shape to make the most of her first-ever Met Gala.

“I didn’t give her anything. [advice,] My only advice is this: It’s a crazy wild thing. It’s just crazy and the stairs are so intense the nights are so intense and if you tend to have a good time you’ll have a good time. And I know she will, and I’m so glad I’ll be by her side on her first Met experience,” he says.

“This is my lovely wife’s first Met Gala. So that breaks the norm there. But I think, you know, we’re coming out of, probably, one of the most disturbing times in everyone’s life, and so just the idea that you can go back to something that might be A bit frivolous and fun and on its own, after this intense experience we’ve all been through, I feel like this really breaks the norm,” says Jackson, adding that enjoying the simplicity of life has disrupted the status quo in the past two years. “I feel like just celebrating American beauty and design and people coming together again, and that in itself is a revolutionary act right now.”

His “beautiful wife” is quite passionate about clinging to social norms, something she says her mere presence exemplifies. “I think any time a black woman is enjoying herself, it’s something to celebrate.
