Potential presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) has claimed that he is a millionaire because of book sales. Sanders in his interview said that he will release his tax returns by Monday to confirm the return he has paid in the last decade.
“On the day in the very immediate future, certainly before April 15, we release ours, I hope that Donald Trump will do exactly the same,” he told The New York Times for a story published Tuesday.
“We are going to release 10 years of our tax returns, and we hope that on that day Donald Trump will do the same,” he added.
The release of details will likely shut the growing criticism over the release of his tax returns, which are expected to reflect on the increase in his wealth. The revelation will also help him internally in increasingly competitive and crowded Democratic run for Presidency.
The concept of tax revelation came forward after Bernie Sanders alongside other Democratic presidential candidates pressed the US President Donald Trump to release his tax returns. During the 2016 election, Trump adduced IRS audit as the reason for not releasing his returns. The agency, however, affirmed that it doesn’t bar individuals from releasing information about their own finances.
The potent contender for Presidency has long vowed about revealing his tax returns in connection with his presidential campaign and has pronounced that he and his wife, Jane, prepare returns without accountants.
Several other Democratic contenders for president, including Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Amy Klobuchar (Minn.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, have released years of tax returns.
Sanders has always been amongst the wealthiest Senators, but a mammoth turnaround in his fortunes came during the 2016 presidential campaign. According to the financial account, he earned approximately $1.06 million in that year, with a major part of his income coming from book royalties, as per the Times.
The most recent book written by Bernie Sanders was, “Where We Go From Here, “published last year.
