After allegations of sexual assault by the Supreme Court Associate Justice, Brett Kavanaugh made the news, the 2020 Democratic hopefuls have began to call for his impeachment. However, President Trump came to his rescue criticizing the media and the Democrats for bringing noteworthy about the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court facts into the attention.
Earlier on Saturday, The New York Times published an extract casting a light on his time at Yale. In their article, the media published the claims and horrific experience of Deborah Ramirez had to endure during a drunken dormitory party while she was in her first year.
Recalling the incident, Ms. Ramirez claimed said that during the party, freshman Brett Kavanaugh pulled down his pants and shoved his penis at her, causing her to move it away and accidently touch it. She described the ordeal, she had to endure as she said, “I had gone through high school, I’m the good girl, and now, in one evening, it was all ripped away.”
She added that the actions of Kavanaugh and his friends indicated that she is not smart. The article also claimed that the incident shared by Ms. Ramirez was verified from seven other people who came to know about the assault long before he was appointed as a federal judge.
This is not the first time Brett Kavanaugh has been accused with sexual assault allegations. Christine Blasey-Ford, a psychology professor made the first accusation against the Supreme Court Associate Justice last year. She said that in a drunken state, he held her down on a bed, groped her, tried to pull off her clothes and covered her mouth when she tried to scream.
Even though they both testified before the Senators, Blasey-Ford and many other claimed to have evidence for verifying their claims, FBI only probed the accusations made but did not interrogated federal judge.
The 2020 democratic hopefuls Kamala Harris and Julían Castro lead the calls for asking the impeachment of Brett Kavanaugh. On the other hand, winner of third Democratic debate, Elizabeth Warren posted a tweet which said, “Last year the Kavanaugh nomination was rammed through the Senate without a thorough examination of the allegations against him.”
“Confirmation is not exoneration, and these newest revelations are disturbing. Like the man who appointed him, Kavanaugh should be impeached,” she added. Apart from Harris, Castro and Warren, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, former vice-President Joe Biden, Cory Booker and Pete Buttigieg also asked for his impeachment.
While the Democrats can move ahead with impeaching the Brett Kavanaugh in the US House of Representatives where they have majority, it would be impossible for them to pass the impeachment through Republican-led Senate, rendering their move at US House of Representatives moot.
