Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen pleads guilty for his crimes and lying to congress in federal Russian investigation.
Cohen has given intense information about Trump to investigating agencies and to special counsel. Cohen has twice pleaded guilty in federal court in Manhattan for his crimes. The campaign violation that Cohen admitted to is his involvement in making payments to two women, porn star Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal, who claimed to have had affairs with the president more than a decade ago.
Cohen has also admitted that he had lied to Congress in 2017 about his involvement in an aborted real estate project in Russia and that project ended months before its declaration.
According to sources, Cohen could get up to 70 years in prison if sentenced to consecutive terms for all his crimes. Cohen has stated that he wanted to start a new life by quickly confessing his crimes, speeding up the legal process and serving the sentences he would receive.
His lawyer and friend, Andrew W. Albstein said, “He realizes that he needs to move on with his life, and that he’d like to begin that process as soon as possible.”
Cohen drew a bitter reaction from Trump, who tweeted, “Michael Cohen asks judge for no Prison Time. You mean he can do all of the TERRIBLE, unrelated to Trump, things having to do with fraud, big loans, Taxis, etc., and not serve a long prison term? He makes up stories to get a GREAT & ALREADY reduced deal for himself, and get his wife and father-in-law (who has the money?) off Scott Free. He lied for this outcome and should, in my opinion, serve a full and complete sentence.”
According to Cohen’s friends and associates, his life has been destroyed due to his friendship with Trump. Cohen told his friends that he felt “mystified” that he is taking the blame for actions he carried out on behalf of the President, who remains unscathed. Still, he is ready to accept responsibility. Cohen pleads guilty to save Trump. Instead of supporting him, Trump has accused Cohen for all the crimes. But the big question is how many innocent people will be accused for Trump’s illegality?
