College Football Picks Timeline: Predictions against the spread, odds for the top 25 Saturday games in Week 2

College Football Picks Timeline: Predictions against the spread, odds for the top 25 Saturday games in Week 2

Over the course of five action-packed days, the first week of the 2022 college football season brought us all the wildfire and madness we can handle with high-score affairs, turmoil and pre-season favorites making sure statements as they pursue the CFP sidewalks. Now we’re in full swing, and it’s time to turn our attention to week two, which kicks off with one of the most awaited encounters of the entire season taking center stage to start the day.

No. 1, Alabama hits the road to face Texas after a 55-0 breakup of Utah, while the Texans — led by Red Star junior footballer Quinn Ewers — were impressive in their own right with a 52-10 win over Louisiana-Monroe. This game provides an opportunity for coach Steve Sarkissian and his show to show he’s ready to compete at a high level, but that’s a tall order given that Bama and Nick Saban will be looking to make a statement of their own in a challenging road environment as the payback run continues.

No. 24 Tennessee also hits the road to take on No. 17 Pittsburgh. These two put together in one of last year’s games, the Panthers’ 41-34 victory during their campaign to win the ACC title. The volunteers will come out for revenge as they continue their quest to declare themselves a legitimate competitor to Georgia in the Eastern SEC.

In the evening window, we’ll tackle the top 20 matches between SEC sprint No. 12 in Florida and Kentucky 20. The Gators sent waves across the nation with their then-no’s alarm. 7 Utah last weekend behind breakout quarterback Anthony Richardson to get a great start to Billy Napier’s era. Also, USC’s 10th-placed travels to Stanford in search of a first PAC 12 win of the Lincoln Riley era following his dominant offensive display in the season-opening win over Rice in Week One.

Odds via Caesars Sportsbook | All times are oriental

#1 Alabama in Texas

nun | Fox fuboTV (try for free)– Texas is one of the few teams in the country that I think is capable of moving the ball and putting points against the Alabama defense, but not enough to convince me to take the points with the Longhorns. The problems the Texans faced last season were not on the offensive side of the ball. He was a defense that allowed 31 points per game, and I need to see more of him than a solid performance against one of the worst teams in the country (ULM) last week before I can trust him. Plus, QB Quinn Ewers may be good someday, yet he’s still a freshman starting his second career. The Alabama defense he’ll be seeing this weekend play a different sport than the defense he saw last week. It’s not hard to imagine him making a mistake or two that proves costly to the Longhorns. Prediction: Alabama -20 – Tom Fornelli

Colorado in the Air Force

Featured game | Air Force Hawks vs Colorado Buffaloes

3:30 PM | CBS, CBSSports.comAnd the CBS Sports App There’s no doubt that the Air Force will win this game, but an 18-point streak is a huge request to cover. In eight team games last season, for example, the Falcons covered a spread of this size only twice — against outrageous UNLV teams and New Mexico. The Air Force offensive looks better in 2022, but Colorado will still do enough on its own to keep the bottom line respectable. Prediction: Colorado +18 – Sheehan Jiraj

No. 24 Tennessee at No. 17 Pittsburgh

3:30 PM | ABC, fuboTV (try for free)– These teams combined to score 75 points last season in Pittsburgh’s 41-34 win over Tennessee, and this should be another high-scoring game. Even though Pittsburgh’s offensive is a slower process than it was last season, the Panthers still scored a lot in their 38-31 Week 1 win over West Virginia. The Volunteers have only improved offensively since last season’s meeting, and they are certainly not known for their defense. Look for a lot of points to be scored. Prediction: more than 65.5 – David Cope

No. 20 Kentucky at No. 12 Florida

Featured game | Florida Gators vs Kentucky Wildcats

7 pm | ESPN, fuboTV (try for free)– I feel confident Florida will win the game, but I don’t like the number spreading. If the Gators win with a field goal, the Wildcats cover, and that could definitely become a one- possession game in the fourth quarter. That’s why I’m going with the sum hit under. A close and competitive match can make both teams play a little tight and lead to lower scores in the extension. Prediction: less than 52.5 – Chip Patterson

No. 10 USC at Stanford

Featured game | Stanford Cardinal vs USC Trojans

7:30 PM | ABC, fuboTV (try for free)– Expectations are off the charts for the Lincoln Riley program, and for good reason. The Trojans are the last flawless Pac 12 team remaining from the AP Top 25 pre-season and they have one of the few coaches in the sport to reach the playoffs multiple times. Stanford should improve after a miserable year in 2021, but it’s hard to imagine USC missing an opportunity to make its first national stage statement. Prediction: USC -9 – Jiargah
