Corona infection: Locking ends almost everywhere in Austria

Status: 12.12.2021 01:02 am

The imposed lockout has ended as the number of corona infections is increasing in Austria – but only for those who have been vaccinated and those who have been cured. There are also regional differences in relief.

The three-week lockout in Austria ended nationwide from midnight. Theaters, museums and resorts are reopening. Trading will take place tomorrow.

The procedure for the gastronomy and hotel business is different: only in the federal states of Tyrol, Worcestershire and Bergenland, hotels and restaurants are already allowed to retrieve guests. The federal states of Salzburg, Lower Austria, Carinthia and Vienna only allow this for a few days or a week. The federal state of Upper Austria will remain locked until December 17.

Relief only for those who have been vaccinated and are recovering

Nationwide, FFP2 masks are in demand at home and there is a curfew order for restaurants at 11pm. Night Gastronomy and Abras-Sky bars are closed. Removal of exit controls will only affect those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered. Until further notice, all non-vaccinated individuals will only be allowed to leave their homes for work, daily shopping or leisure.

The federal government pulled the emergency brake on November 22, considering the massive fourth corona wave and the high exposure to clinics with Govt 19 patients. Since then, the seven-day incidence has dropped significantly – from more than 1,100 cases per 100,000 people to 380 within a week. The situation in clinics has slightly improved. However, experts warn that the improvement of the situation will not be enough to prepare for the fifth wave threatened by the Omikron variant.
