Democrats Regret Voting for William Barr as Attorney General

in Politics

Following the release of the letter sent to Attorney General William Barr on his summary of Special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, the Democrats, who supported Barr, are now in remorse of selecting him as the attorney general.

Barr in his summary of Mueller’s report stated that neither Trump is guilty nor he can be exonerated, despite the report stating otherwise.

The letter came into existence on Tuesday afternoon, where the special counsel said, “The summary letter the Department sent to Congress and released to the public late in the afternoon of March 24 did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance of this office’s work and conclusions.”

William Barr was elected as the attorney general on February 15, after the votes of 54-55 in his favor. The votes of Democratic Senators Doug Jones, Joe Manchin, and Kyrsten Sinema proved to be crucial in his selection. Most of these Democrats are regretting their decision after Mueller’s report, considering that Barr falsified the background of his report on Russian interference, came out.

Previously, Jarred Nadler, Chairman of House Judiciary Committee, criticized Barr for saving Trump from the conclusion provided in the Mueller report.

Before that and after the release of the Mueller report, Nadler asked the attorney general to publicize the unredacted version of the report to see why Mueller did not charge Trump over collusion and on obstruction of Justice.

Jones in an interview said that he is “greatly, greatly disappointed”, after the revelations on William Barr came into light.

“I also thought he would bring this institutional stability to the Department of Justice — and not be the president’s personal lawyer. And he seems like he is moving and has moved toward a less independent role,” he added.

He has agreed even though he does not fully regret his decision of voting for Barr as attorney general, he’s “getting close to that”.

In retrospect of Mueller’s letter to William Barr, Manchin in his interview said, that if the letter is true then he has made a mistake in voting for him.

“Absolutely, I have buyer’s remorse,” he said.
