Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, announced plans for a price cap on Russian gas.

The EU Commission has spoken out in favor of redistributing so-called uneven profits from energy companies. Currently, for companies that generate cheap electricity, Profit margins should be low, Commission President van der Leyen said. The money could go to homes and businesses particularly affected by high energy prices. Von der Leyen also called for a cap on Russian natural gas prices. Putin has threatened to cut off supplies completely if the price ceiling is imposed. The Kremlin boss said at an event in Vladivostok that Russia would no longer offer anything to EU countries.

Scholz pledges more aid to Ukraine

President Scholes has pledged further assistance to Ukraine’s President Zelensky. According to his spokesman, Scholz made it clear in a phone conversation that Germany supports Ukraine militarily, politically, financially and humanitarianly. The two politicians also discussed the situation at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. They stressed that the safety and security of nuclear power plant is paramount. The report of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the actions recommended by the agency played a major role in this.
