Misfortune in America!
A boat suspected to be hijackers capsized off the coast of Florida. The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for 39 missing people
Authorities were alerted Tuesday by a man who rescued a survivor. He was able to save himself from the bottom of the capsized boat.
He said the boat left the Bimini archipelago in the Bahamas on Saturday night and then got caught in a storm. None of the passengers were wearing life jackets, he said.
According to the Coast Guard, the crash site was about 70 miles[70 km]east of Fort Pierce, Florida.
Rescue workers are searching for survivors on ships and by air.
The Coast Guard said it was suspected to be a human trafficking operation.
Bimini is the westernmost part of the islands in the Bahamas – very close to the American mainland. The Bahamas is known as the haunt of kidnapping gangs seeking to bring refugees and immigrants to the United States.
