Status: 08/27/2021 1:33 p.m.

The Vienna Regional Court has found the former Austrian deputy Vander Strach guilty of bribery in office. He was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Former Austrian Vice Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strait has been convicted of bribery by a Vienna court. According to Judge Claudia Moravec-Loydold, Strauss was sentenced to 15 months in prison on corruption charges in connection with the Ibiza affair.

The former party leader of the right-wing populist FPÖ is said to have influenced a law in favor of a private clinic for economic gain. The party is said to have received donations and leave in response to the politician. Walter Groopmல்லller, a friend of Strach’s and the owner of the clinic, was sentenced to twelve months in prison for bribery. Judgments are not yet final.

Denied charges

The businessman focused on his efforts to access state private hospital funding with his Vienna beauty hospital. Adding to the fund makes it easier to offset medical services. Groupmல்லller donated a total of ,000 12,000 to FPÖ in 2016 and 2017, at which time it was still in opposition. He also invited Strach to Corbu Island. The clinic finally gained access to funding in 2018 after Strauss became an associate.

The judge said there was no doubt that the “chronology of events” was corrupt. It is “unbelievable” that a politician does not want to know anything about donations. Strach previously denied that there was anything wrong. Like Groupmல்லller’s lawyer, his lawyer demanded his release.

Breakdown of the alliance in 2019

In May 2019, the IPSA affair led to the breakdown of President Sebastian Kurz’s alliance between the ÖVP and the FPÖ and led to early elections. An open video secretly filmed in Ibiza shows how Strauss promised government contracts to the daughter-in-law of the Russian oligarchy in exchange for campaign support ahead of the 2017 parliamentary elections. Strauss later resigned his office. During the investigation into the matter, the authorities found additional evidence of bribery on his cell phone.
