George RR Martin It was a no-show at the Wednesday night premiere in Los Angeles of the movie “Dragon House“The New HBO”Game of thronessubstring. The author and creator of the fictional world of Westeros tested positive for COVID-19 in the days after his presentation at the “House of the Dragon” at San Diego Comic-Con.
“I was going to start the day introducing George R. R. Martin and tell you how wonderful it is to have George on the journey with us,” Casey Bloys, chief content officer for HBO and HBO MAX, said, addressing the audience at the premiere. “Unfortunately, George got COVID at Comic-Con, so he’s not here. I think he’s fine, so don’t worry.”
“I wanted to tell you what my pleasure and how lucky we are to have the architect of this world on this journey with us,” Bloys continued. “It was wonderful.”
Last Saturday, Martin directly addressed the topic of COVID-19 during the show Comic-Con . panel, indicating that he has been vigilant and has remained socially distancing throughout the pandemic. Martin stated that he was spending a lot of time at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, choosing against visiting “House of the Dragon” during production.
The author also confirmed that he is focusing his attention on completing the work on “The Winds of Winter,” the long-awaited entry, which ostensibly appears to be the penultimate in his “Game of Thrones” series of novels.
“You might not know, but there’s this book I’m writing, I’m a little late,” Martin said at Comic-Con. “I don’t see myself visiting a group or doing anything until I finish this book and turn it in.”
Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapotchnik, who are co-executive producers and co-showrunners on “House of the Dragon,” took the stage at the premiere. The duo hosted the evening premiere of the pilot series, which was written by Kondal and directed by Subtochnik.
“There can be no ‘House of the Dragon’ without the work and beautiful words of George R. R. Martin,” Kunda said. “We are so grateful that he was bold enough to entrust me with his books as writer and Miguel as director.”
“House of the Dragon” will premiere on HBO and HBO Max on August 21.
