A 20-year-old British woman has been brutally murdered in front of her 11-month-old baby in Athens on Tuesday morning. Her husband could do nothing – the robbers grabbed him and handcuffed him to a chair.
At least three hooded men entered the couple’s home on the outskirts of Athens at around 5am after killing the family’s dog.
“Tell me where the money is [oder] We will kill the child, ”one of the robbers, Babis Anagnostopoulos, 32, told police. According to media reports, the thugs pointed guns at the child and threatened to shoot Carolyn Cruz.
“They handcuffed her and tortured her until they told her where the valuables were,” one investigator said. They then fled with jewelery and cash worth 10,000 to 15,000 euros. The perpetrators may have been spying for a long time before the couple became victims.
“When I was able to get out, I ran upstairs. My wife was lying face down on the floor with the crying baby,” Anagnostopoulos told police. The young mother strangled their eleven-month-old daughter.
Greek authorities have taken the rare step of offering a $ 300,000 reward for information related to “barbaric” law.
Civil Defense Minister Michaelis Christosoides described the killing as “particularly horrific.” “In Greece, in Greek society, such barbarism is rare, even among criminals,” he said.
