In front of a luxury hotel in Cancun: Two killed in shooting in Mexico – News Abroad

Cancun – Mexico’s holiday paradise is not resting.

Once again a wild shooting took place in the Latin American country where many tourists want to spend their dream vacation. This time the crime took place: the luxury Hyatt Jiva Riviera Hotel in Cancun. The gunfire, screams, people took refuge in the running stairs and in the hotel lobby.

Police say two suspected drug dealers were killed in the shooting. According to officials, “none of the tourists were seriously injured”. During the panic at the hotel, guests were asked to hide.

Clashes broke out between combat gangs of drug traffickers in the Caribbean city of Puerto Morelos, the state attorney general of the state of Quintana Roo said on Twitter on Thursday. Two members of this group died in the process.

The U.S. embassy in Mexico said on Thursday that embassy officials were investigating social media reports of a shooting at the hotel.

Other guests said they heard gunshots and said an armed man was on the beach.

About two weeks ago, two tourists were killed in a shootout between two rival drug gangs at a bar in Toulom – and on the same beach in the south: an Indian and a German. Jennifer H, 35, of Nuremberg, who was on vacation with friends, was shot dead by criminals at the popular “La Malgerida” bar.
