Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, co-hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe”, secretly got married on Saturday in the rotunda of the National Archives in Washington, D.C.
They pair got engaged last May in France and confirmed their engagement on none other than “Morning Joe” itself.
The two journalists got married in front of a small group of friends and family, including Brzezinski’s mother and the couple’s six children from previous marriages.
Photos obtained by Vanity Fair showcase Brzezinski wearing a Michelle Smith designed white gown with a sweetheart neckline and polka-dot lace sleeves and Joe Scarborough wore a black Zegna suit with a black tie.
Brzezinski told media that Joe Scarborough proposed on her 50th birthday. She further added that during a walk by the Mediterranean on a vacation in Antibes, France, Scarborough went down on his knee and brought out the oval-shaped diamond set in platinum. Brzezinski said, “When I saw him on one knee, I started laughing nervously, almost hysterically and then he asked, and I said, ‘Absolutely.”
“We wanted it to be really small and simple and not what you expected from Mika and Joe,” Brzezinski told the media.
She further said, “Everything we do is exposed, and everything felt exposed every step of the way, so we want this to be private until it’s over.”
Brzezinski is also willing to change her name post marriage.
This is Joe Scarborough’s third marriage, he has been married to Melanie Hinton from 1986-1999 and then to former congressional staffer Susan Warren from 2001-2013. He has four children, two from each marriage.
Mika Brzezinski, the daughter of Jimmy Carter’s national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski, was married to a fellow TV journalist, James Hoffer from 1993-2016. They have two children together.
Brzezinski and Scarborough said that they kept their feelings for each other from a very long time and acted only after their previous marriages ended.
