“Law & Order: SVU” Mariska Hargitay on Kelli Giddish Leaving

Law & Order: SVUBenson and Rollins bid a tearful farewell in Thursday’s fall final. And right after the episode ended, Mariska Hargitay posted a tribute to her co-star, Kelly Giddish, who is leaving the series.

“Kelly, I loved acting, learning, growing, talking, laughing and crying with you,” Hargitay wrote Instagram. “I loved watching your painfully beautiful performances. I loved watching our friendship deepen, grow, and blossom. I loved every minute of it, and I will miss you so much. You have my respect, gratitude, and love forever.” Signed, “xo M.”

in August, Giddish confirmed that she would leave the procedure long-term in Season 24. “I wanted to break through the chatter I’ve been seeing online and let everyone know that this is going to be, really, my last season of the show. Law & Order: SVUI wrote at that time. “Playing Rollins has been one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life. I have been very fortunate to be a part of Law and order family for the past 12 years. There is simply no other character on TV like Rollins. You’ve grown and changed, and so have I. I got my start on this show when I was in my late 20s and I’m grateful to have spent so many of my adult years with Rollins in my life.”

Thursday’s episode finds Rollins of Jeddish marrying Assistant District Attorney Dominic “Sonny” Carisi in an impromptu court ceremony attended by their co-workers. Towards the end of the episode, Rollins announces her intention to leave Special Victims Unit to take a teaching position at Fordham. Although Olivia initially disapproves of her friend and classmate’s impending departure, she eventually comes around and wishes Amanda well. (Read the full episode synopsis.)
