Sen. Lindsey Graham Attempts to Shift Impeachment Inquiry Focus on Joe Biden

in Politics

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham has sent a letter to the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, requesting him to launch an investigation into Democratic hopeful Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden.

Graham has asked Pompeo to provide the call transcripts, notes and communications involving Joe Biden, former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, former Secretary of State John Kerry, a former Ukrainian prosecutor, and people connected to the Ukrainian energy company Burisma.

The request to investigate the role of father-son duo in Ukrainian corruption and to find substantiated proof of misuse of power by Joe Biden has come at a time when impeachment inquiry is going downhill for the GOP Senate.

It’s a known fact that the request to launch an investigation into the Bidens is a vain attempt to divert the attention from the impeachment hearing and contain its impact.

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham in his letter to Pompeo has established a feeble connection between a Ukrainian state department official and Hunter Biden.

He claimed that Hunter followed the Ukrainian state department official on Twitter, the same day when Ukrainian officials raided the home of Burisma’s founder, Mykola Zlochevsky. Graham said that a fact of such sort suggests, “the two may have initiated conversations regarding Prosecutor General [Viktor] Shokin’s investigation into Burisma.”

Further in his letter to Pompeo, Graham claimed that weeks later Joe Biden had several telephonic conversations with then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to talk about discharging Shokin over allegations of corruption. Shokin was fired after the calls between the two leaders.

It seems Graham has made some baseless claims. While, there can be any reason to follow a person on Twitter, linking the request of removing a corrupt official from service with misuse of power is entirely baseless.

The entire scenario points to the fact that Republicans are aiming to impede the presidential campaign of Biden as it would boost the chances of re-election of President Donald Trump – the sole aim of Republicans ahead of 2020 elections.

Also, another possible reason behind the move might be impeachment inquiry not going as per the plans of either Trump or GOP Senators including Lindsey Graham, apart from the steady growth of Biden as possible Democratic presidential candidate.

Former Vice President Joe Biden was seen in his best performance during the fifth Democratic debate and not for once Biden looked afraid of any possible inquiry. In a concealed form, he pointed that the GOP might cook up something to tarnish his image as he has the most probable chances of standing against Trump.

“I’ve learned something from these impeachment trials – I’ve learned, number one, that Donald Trump doesn’t want me to be the nominee. Secondly, I found out Vladimir Putin doesn’t want me to be president,” Biden said at the fifth Democratic debate.
