American singer-songwriter Madonna has expressed deep regret over axing the first London show of her Madame X world tour. The superstar who had been due to commence her run of 15 dates at the London Palladium from this Monday, stated that her injury made her take the unfortunate decision.

In a statement, the singer said that she had been “plagued” by injuries since the beginning of the tour and had been told by the doctors to “rest for a few days”. Adding that the refunds would be available to those who had bought the tickets for Monday’s performance.

“As you all know I have injuries that have plagued me since the beginning of the tour but I must always listen to my body and put my health first, ” she said while explaining her decision.

However, there have also been reports that the show was cancelled because Madonna failed to sell out the British leg of the tour. As reported, the price of tickets which ranged from £69 to £500, was called as a bit too high for all to afford. Yet Wednesday’s show will still move forward as scheduled.

The decision to cancel the show comes after the 61-year-old cancelled the performance in Lisbon, Portugal last week. Even at that time, the star informed that her decision had come in line with the injury.

“Sorry I had to cancel tonight,” the 61-year-old wrote on Instagram at the time, “but I must listen to my body and rest!”

Though there has been no official word on the type of injury, but audience in San Francisco told she was suffering from a “torn ligament” and “a bad knee” in November. As a proof to the claims made by people, a video posted last week in Lisbon showed Madonna wearing knee cap whilst preparing for an earlier show in Portugal.

“How an injured Madame X warms up for a show,” she wrote in the caption. “Very carefully.”

Madame X world tour, which will now kick start Wednesday has left a lot of fans disappointed after Monday’s show was called off. “I’m so gutted and upset,” one wrote. “We’ve train and accommodation booked!” he added.

While the other remarked about his misfortune and wrote: “Get well soon M, I’m a bad shot and bought tickets for your 2 shows in Lisbon that were canceled”.
