The end of the phase three of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with Spider-Man: Far From Home and Avengers: Endgame made every marvel fan to ponder upon a single question, what next could be expected in the phase 4 of MCU. And all the questions got answered with the phase 4 announcement of Marvel at San Diego Comic-Con.
All questions were answered at the phase 4 announcement at San Diego Comic-Con along with the revelation of various movies like the Eternals. When it seemed that the excitement could not be heightened anymore, the arrival of female Thor in the fourth part of Thor franchise titled, Thor: Love and Thunder was announced.
The movie will see the return of Thor’s love interest and astrophysicist Dr. Jane Foster aka Natalie Portman. Taika Waititi will direct the movie and it will be released in November 2021. The movie will also star Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson. Portman was last seen in Thor: The Dark World.
The news has not only come out as a happy surprise for the fans, who’ve been waiting to see how the next Thor movie will turn out, but it has also led to the dawn of a new era with female leads in the MCU.
Director Taika Waititi explained the storyline of the movie, saying that the movie is built upon the event where Thor loses his abilities as The God of Thunder, and Jane Foster steps up to wield the mighty Mjolnir and take the mantle of female Thor.
No further details about the movie are released except that Portman would be referred as “Mighty Thor”. The news of Portman taking up the mantle of Thor has led to people taking hilarious digs on her as she once said that she was “done” with the Marvel universe.
In addition of Thor: Love and Thunder, the MCU has announced various movies having female lead like Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson and Wanda Vision TV series marking return of Scarlet Witch portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen.
Announcement of Portman playing the role of the “mighty Thor”, has led to the buildup of various fan theories explaining how Jane Forster become worthy to wield Mjolnir. With the announcement of Thor: Love and Thunder, it would be interesting to see what the movie could mean for Chris Hemsworth as Thor in Guardians of The Galaxy 3.
The announcement of female Thor making an entry into the fan favorite Thor series has led to fans eagerly waiting for the “flick”. Also, it won’t be wrong to say that with the announcement of phase 4, MCU is beginning to take female casts just as seriously as its male superheroes, taking a step further in terms of women empowerment.
