Democratic representative Rashida Tlaib continues to lead the impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump. The congresswoman is proceeding against impeachment even after the submission of Robert Mueller’s investigation report.
The investigation was performed to see if there is any truth to the alleged collusion between Russia and Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential elections. President Trump was found to be uninvolved in the collusion, as per the report.
The freshman congresswoman has been making continuous efforts to rally the support for impeachment of the president. The move is being taken openly against the wishes of the House Democrat leaders, mainly Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of House of Representatives.
As reported by Business Insider, Rashida Tlaib sent a letter to fellow democrats on Monday, asking for support for the motion. The motion is to ask the House Judiciary Committee to investigate if President Trump committed chargeable offenses.
In the letter, the Michigan democrat wrote that “The actions of President Trump before he was officially sworn in as President of United States is currently being investigated by the Southern District of New York and much of it is part of the completed report by independent investigator, Robert Mueller. However, the most dangerous threat to our democracy is President Trump’s actions since taking the oath of office.”
Rashida Tlaib continued to assert that Trump has denied providing participation in the investigations being performed by the Democrats.
Tlaib’s attempts to impeach the president do not come as a surprise, as she had vowed in front of the liberal activists right after being sworn in that she would fight for the “impeachment the motherf*cker”, referring to the president.
The House Judiciary Committee has sent letters to more than 80 groups this month. The committee is looking for the documents from various sources to complete the investigation on Trump’s electoral campaigns and prior business dealings. Till now, the previous and present members of president’s inner circle have provided a total of over 7500 letters to the committee.
As per the media, Rashida Tlaib asked the House Judiciary Chairman, Jerry Nadler, to investigate Trump on various fronts. These include Foreign Emoluments Clause, his involvement in defrauding the country and the evidence in Mueller’s report against the President breaks federal law.
Tlaib’s letter gained media attention just two weeks after Pelosi’s statement that, “Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”
The other democrats, including Nadler, have also raised their disapproval about the impeachment. Nadler had also asked the members of the Congress to be wary until the result of Mueller’s report are declared.
On Sunday, the Department of Justice said that they were unable to determine whether Trump’s presidential campaign “conspired or coordinated” with the Russian government in the 2016 elections.
