The Kremlin is again threatening World War III

Given the war and the areas illegally annexed by Russia, Ukraine wants to join NATO soon. Application submitted, but future access is virtually impossible. Yet the Kremlin is already building its ominous background.
For Russia, Ukraine joining NATO could lead to World War III. “Kiev knows that such a move indicates a certain escalation towards World War III,” Alexander Venediktov, deputy secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, told Russian state news agency TASS.
Almost two weeks ago, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky applied for his country’s accelerated accession to NATO. In response to Russia’s annexation of Ukrainian territories, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law at the same time. Nine European NATO countries voted in favor of Ukraine joining the military alliance.
The Ukrainian NATO application is currently unlikely to succeed, as one of the conditions is that the applicant must have no active border conflicts. In addition, NATO wants to avoid a direct conflict with Russia, which is why the US and Germany are skeptical about Ukrainian accession.
Analena Beerbock recently emphasized: “We continue to support Ukraine’s right to self-defense, including with heavy weapons, but we are doing everything we can to ensure that other countries and NATO are not drawn into this war.” Meanwhile, Deputy Secretary Venediktov reiterated Russia’s view that the West is already directly involved in the conflict by helping Ukraine.
