20 people died in a fire at a nursing home. This was announced by the civil defense of the West Siberian city.
A fire broke out in the building on Saturday night. A shack-like facility is a shelter for the homeless. It is now being investigated for breaching fire safety regulations.

2 people were taken to hospital with burns. Misuse of an oven heater is suspected to be the cause of the fire.
SPICY: A fire safety inspection representative wanted to inspect the facility on Dec. 7 but was turned away, the Russian Civil Defense Ministry announced.
The commission released photos and videos of the gutted building. Emergency services worked there in sub-zero temperatures – some 3,600 kilometers east of Moscow. More than 80 people and 28 vehicles were stopped.

The facility was run by a priest who was questioned by the police
According to Russian state news agency TASS, the owner of the building and a pastor who allegedly ran the facility for the homeless have been arrested and questioned by investigators. Accordingly, there should have been any approval for the functioning of the house.
Violations of the most basic safety precautions continue to fuel serious fires in Russia. Thousands of people die every year as a result. (dpa/ias)
