Lucy famed actress Scarlett Johansson is facing a lot of heat following her support to the contentious director Woody Allen. The director has been in news mostly for wrong reasons, which include sexually assaulting his adoptive daughter Dylan Farrow and marrying his step-daughter.
Johansson during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter magazine voiced her support for Allen, with whom she has worked on various movies like “Match Point”, “Scoop” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”.
When asked about her feelings for Allen and the accusations on him by Farrow, she said, “I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime. I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”
Avengers star Scarlett Johansson further said, “It’s hard because it’s a time where people are very fired up, and understandably.”
“Things needed to be stirred up, and so people have a lot of passion and a lot of strong feelings and are angry, and rightfully so. It’s an intense time.”
Following her comment, Johansson received a lot of backlash from fans and Alice star Dylan Farrow over social media. While the editor for Them Magazine, Michael Cuby condemned the actress for “vehemently defending Woody Allen”, another user said, “Scarlett Johansson reminds everyone that enablers come in all shapes and sizes, regardless of outer beauty.”
On the other hand, Dylan retaliated in response to Johansson’s comment, saying “Because if we’ve learned anything from the past two years it’s that you definitely should believe male predators who ‘maintain their innocence’ without question. Scarlett has a long way to go in understanding the issue she claims to champion.”
This is not the first time Johansson is facing criticism for her comments. The actress was earlier under radar for dropping out of “Rub & Tug”, wherein she was due to play a role of a transgender boy.
While Scarlett Johansson or her spokesperson did not respond to the requests for a comment, the Match Point star seems to be in dire need of media training. Johansson would be next seen in Black Widow, set to release in May next year.
