At least 46 immigrants have been killed in a truck crash in the US state of Texas. Two more died later at the hospital, according to the Baptist Health System Hospital team in San Antonio. Sixteen of the survivors were taken to hospitals, including twelve adults and four children.

“The patients we saw were too hot to touch and they suffered a heat stroke,” said Charles Hood, San Antonio Fire Chief. There is no water in the trailer. It’s actually a refrigerated truck; However, the cooling system did not work. It was about 40 degrees in San Antonio on Monday.

Authorities announced the arrest of three people. “We do not know if they have anything to do with this,” said Police Chief McManus. The investigation was handed over to the central authorities. Mayor Ron Niranberg spoke of a “terrible human tragedy.”

Apparently many Mexicans among the victims

According to officials, the victims were women and men, youth and youth. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lpez Obrador spoke of a “tragedy” and said at least 22 Mexicans were among the dead. The number of illegal trespassers is on the rise

The truck was found near the I-35 freeway leading to the border with Mexico. A city employee heard a voice calling for help from a vehicle on a distant street.

Immigrants hidden in trucks are being smuggled back to the United States from Mexico. It is about 250 kilometers from San Antonio to the border with Mexico.

Over the months, the number of people trying to cross the border from Mexico to the United States has been increasing – even without proper documentation. Traffickers and human traffickers promise to help with the deadly consequences.

“Absolutely scary and heartbreaking”

White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre told reporters in Air Force One that President Joe Biden was closely following San Antonio’s “absolutely terrifying and heartbreaking statements.” He thanked the first responders on behalf of the White House.

The ultra-conservative Texas governor, Greg Abbott, has blamed Fiden’s emigration policy. “These deaths are Biden’s fault,” Abbott said on Twitter. Abbott said they were “the result of his deadly open border policy.” If the law is not enforced it will have “deadly consequences”.

Opposition Republicans have accused Biden of pursuing a policy of displacement and defending the southern border. They also want to use this title in the campaign for the midterm Congress elections in November.
