The Inconvenient Truth Behind Saudi Arabia Buying WWE

WWE

On November 5, 2022, WWE introduced the Crown Jewel Premium Live event from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as part of its ongoing business partnership with (or, more accurately, its publicist) the Saudi Arabian General Sports Authority.

Nothing in the show, though of a high level of quality for displays of glorified old non-ecclesiastical houses, seemed to matter in the wake of the looming shadow. All but the most ardent WWE defenders united in their dismay. How can this happenthey said. How could WWE get into bed with a brutal dictatorship that violently bans freedom of expression and persecutes the LGBTQ community?

It was a sad day for professional wrestling. She lost her innocence forever. It didn’t matter that the main attraction was a massive success, that the Battle of the Titans was also overtaken, albeit to a less impressive degree, or that the roster wore their work boots against a visually stunning backdrop. The mood was simply too low for any of this to be recorded.

Except none of this ever happened.

People swear at the main event. The conversation wasn’t dominated by the gross nature of the relationship but rather the remarkable progression of Logan Paul, who wrestled something close to a true WWE classic in his third-ever match. The only loud controversy stemming from the show was Braun Strowman’s Twitter activity. Many people were more willing to champion the high-flying art of wrestling than those struggling in marginalized communities.
