It is like a medical miracle that little Richard can achieve the first birthday cake of his life with his hands.
Because his doctors say Richard’s life must have been too short: he was born in June 2020 – five months before, in the midst of a corona infection. According to Guinness World Records, she is the world’s first premature baby and weighs only 337 grams after childbirth. The little thing was so small that his parents Rick and Beth Hutchinson could hold him in the palm of their hand.
“Doctors told Rick and Beth that a baby born prematurely has a zero percent chance of survival,” the doctor said. From Stacey Kern Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis (Minnesota, USA) to “Guinness World Records”.
But Rick and Beth were not deterred by the shock prediction. Due to a corona infection, the two were not allowed to stay overnight with Richard at the clinic. So they drove 100 kilometers every day for weeks between their home in St. Croix County, Wisconsin and the Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis.
“We made sure we were there to support him,” Papa Rick told Guinness World Records. “I think knowing that he can trust us helped him diligently.”
Fact: By Dr. Stacy Kern’s medical care and the devotion of her parents, Richard finally left the intensive care unit for the baby just before Christmas, enough to drive home with mom and dad. He spends Christmas Eve in his father’s arms.
Dr. Stacey Kern: “The day Richard was released from intensive care was such a special day. I remember lifting him out of the crib with tears in my eyes. I could not believe that I was afraid that the same boy who had been so sick at one time would not survive. I was a guy who could hold one hand, its skin was so thin I could see every rib and blood vessel. “
