He wanted to bring back unity, respect and dignity to the White House. Under US President Biden’s spokesman Saki, the tone and nature of press conferences change after years of Trump. Now he is handing over to the first black woman in office.
Farewell to the Conference Room at the White House in Washington: After nearly 16 months as spokesman for US President Joe Biden, Jen Socki finally answered reporters’ questions. “I assured myself it would not be emotional,” the 43-year-old said – meanwhile he was still struggling with his emotions. Saki is one of the key figures in the Democrats’ Biden administration. For the first time since Psaki, a black woman holds a key position, along with former deputy spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre.
Psaki’s departure was already clear in April. She did not comment on further business plans. According to media reports, he should switch to the liberal television station MSNBC. Psaki thanked US President and First Lady Jill Biden, her team and reporters. “You challenged me, you pushed me, you argued with me, sometimes we disagreed,” he said. “This is living democracy.” The mother of two young children also thanked her husband.
Speaking to Biden about his future role after winning the election, Zaki said it was “bringing unity, respect and dignity back to the White House.” Weekly press conferences between Biden’s predecessor Donald Trump’s speakers have been canceled. Trump described the critical media as “enemies of the people.” With Psaki, regular press conferences and treating journalists with respect in the conference room.
