During a recent interview at the New York Film Academy, President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige has said that a trans character will be introduced in the MCU Phase 4.
Feige answered questions on Doctor Strange 2, the strongest character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the reason why MCU is successful in every part of the world, in the interview.
Feige released the details while answering a question on Marvel’s plan to bring LGBTQ characters into the MCU, especially a Trans character. In response, Feige said, “Yes, absolutely yes. Very soon, in a movie we’re shooting right now, yes.”
Although Feige avoided the specifics, there are speculations that the trans character will appear in The Eternals.
Fans and critics have reasoned that only two of the six movies, from the MCU Phase 4 namely – Black Widow and The Eternals are scheduled for release in 2020. Since Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson is in post-production while Eternals is still filming principal photography, therefore the trans character will appear in The Eternals.
Feige also revealed that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will introduce several Marvel characters that are bound to leave the fans baffled.
Fiege said, “The next Doctor Strange film, for instance, features some new MCU characters that will be making their debut in that movie. You won’t expect or won’t guess who it is but we found a cool way to make it work because we want to make a particular type of movie there and there was a character we always wanted to do something with who will fit really well there.”
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness a part of the MCU Phase 4, which Marvel announced at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, is scheduled to release in May 2021.
As per the released details, Benedict Cumberbatch will once again portray the role of Doctor Strange opposite Elizabeth Olsen, who will portray the role of Scarlet Witch.
As MCU is introducing a trans character for the first time, the fans are skeptical over the role-time of trans character. Earlier, Marvel introduced Joe Russo, Co-Director of Avengers: Endgame, as a gay character but with only ten seconds role.
If the same happens with the upcoming trans character in The Eternals, then all efforts of Marvel on LGBTQ representation till now, will go in vain.
