President Donald Trump obsession with Sen. John McCain – even after his death – is uncanny. During an interview with Fox Business Channel host Maria Bartiromo, Trump openly discussed the controversy generated by his comments during his visit to a tank factory in Ohio.
During his speech at the tank factory, Trump complained of not being thanked for giving McCain “the kind of funeral he wanted”.
“I gave him the kind of funeral he wanted which as president I had to approve. I don’t care about this, I didn’t get thank you, that’s OK,” Trump said.
He added that he “never liked” McCain much.
“I’ve really probably never will, but there’s certain reasons for it and I will tell you, and I do this to save a little time with the press later on, John McCain received a fake and phony dossier, did you hear about the dossier? It was paid for by crooked Hillary Clinton, right,” Trump continued. “And John McCain got it, he got it, and what did he do? He didn’t call me. He turned it over to the FBI hoping to put me in jeopardy, and that’s not the nicest thing to do. You know when those people say, because I’m a very loyal person…”
During the interview too, Trump spoke nastily about McCain, citing his belief that the late Senator had a senior aide provide a dossier – which was complied by British intelligence officer Christopher Steele – to the FBI. “[The dossier] was a fake, it was a fraud, it was paid for by Hillary Clinton and the Democrats. They gave it to John McCain, who gave it to the FBI for very evil purposes,” Trump told Bartiromo.
Previously also Trump had tweeted about Mc Cain’s connection to the dossier. “So it was indeed (just proven in court papers) “last in his class” (Annapolis) John McCain that sent the Fake Dossier to the FBI and Media hoping to have it printed BEFORE the Election. He & the Dems, working together, failed (as usual). Even the Fake News refused this garbage,” Trump tweeted on Sunday.
However, as per an Associated Press report, until 2016 McCain didn’t turn the dossier over to James Comey, ex-FBI director. The report also said that the FBI had received the information much before the 2016 elections from Steele’s research.
Trump also spoke about McCain’s vote against repealing and replacing Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act in 2017. “He had been campaigning for years for repeal and replace. I’m not a fan. After all of this time, he’s been thinking this. Repeal and replace. We would have had great healthcare.
“I’m not a fan. He was horrible what he did with repeal and replace. What he did to the Republican party and the nation and to sick people who could have had great healthcare was not good. So I’m not a fan of John McCain and that’s fine,” the president said.
It is difficult to understand why Trump is deliberately trying to attack the dead “war hero”, when there’s nothing that he will gain out of it.
