This murder is moving Turkey!
In the province of Antalya, a newspaper student was raped and strangled by Asra Colendum Haidovlu, 21.
Particularly horrific: According to relevant media reports, the killer allegedly carved his name with a razor blade on the dead woman’s body.
So he is Mustafa Murad Ayhan, a civil engineer and real estate agent. He is said to have confessed to the atrocity. He told investigators that he and Haidovlu had been drinking together when a “dispute” ensued.
Surveillance cameras captured him leaving his home with a suitcase on the evening of the crime. Inside: Body parts. After the confession, he took the police into the woods, where he buried them.
The student has been missing since last Wednesday. At midnight, her sister called her – after that, she was no longer accessible. His body parts were not available until Monday.
After it became known, women’s rights groups called for protests: “The male state and its misguided policies will not conduct judicial and effective investigations to protect criminals.”
Background: Turkey withdraws from the so-called Istanbul Conference in March. The agreement should outlaw physical and psychological violence against women and take action against genital mutilation, forced marriage and forced contraception.
In particular, women’s rights activists accuse investigators of discovering a student’s cell phone too late.
According to the organization “We will stop the killing of women”, 300 women were killed by men close to them in Turkey last year alone, and the group has counted more than 140 acts since the beginning of the year.
