War in Russia: Gerasimov appointed commander of Ukraine

Russland’s invasion troops Ukraine Now headed by Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov. This follows from a statement by the Russian Ministry of Defense on Wednesday evening. Minister Sergei Shoigu appointed Gerasimo. Accordingly, the 67-year-old Gerasimov will retain the post of chief of staff, which he has held for more than ten years. Sergei Surovykin, appointed commander of the invasion force in October, is now one of Gerasimo’s three deputies.

The Defense Department staff presented the decisions as “elevating the leadership of special military operations” such as war. Russia is further mentioned. This “increase” is related to “the expansion of the scope of the tasks to be solved in the context of their implementation.” It included “the need to organize close cooperation between types and types of troops in the armed forces” and to improve the “quality” of the performance of the leadership of the invasion forces.

Moscow is sticking with familiar personnel

Their first commander, whose appointment was made public, was a Surovikin. Under his command, Russia launched systematic attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. In addition, Surovikin ended up withdrawing from Cherson after the presidency Vladimir Putin annexed southern Ukrainian territory. This has fueled suspicions that Putin is trying to create a “scapegoat” for military setbacks.

Chief of Staff Gerasimo, like Minister Shoigu, is among the military leaders who have been heavily criticized by pro-war bloggers and actors such as mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin and Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. Rumors that Gerasimov was removed from the post of chief officer have not been confirmed. It was recently reported that another general, Alexander Lapin, who was involved in Ukraine, namely the unsuccessful storming of Kiev and Donbass and criticized by the same circles, was appointed as the commander of Russian infantry troops. As a result, Russian media reported that Lapin was relieved of his post as head of part of the invasion force.

It has not been officially confirmed nor has there been a report of a new use of the lab. However, Moscow’s individual decisions repeatedly speak of familiar personnel being retained. Resignation means admitting mistakes, which reflects poorly on leadership.
